A ranking policeman who jumped to the assistance of a partner who was ambushed by a blade-wielder received the King's Commendation for Valor.

Sergeant Tim Ansell struggled against 27-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he placed a knife to the throat of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the policemen and their third officer, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver following a road collision in the area in summer 2023.

Brown knifed and cut the two Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster before PC Wolstencroft stunned him with a electric weapon.

"Officer knifed," the officer could be heard saying over his communication device.

Officer-mounted and dashcam video made public by the police department revealed Brown, that was clothed in black with a hood up, rush to Sgt Foster from the rear with a weapon extended.

He collided with the officer who stumbled and fell to the ground, after which Sergeant Ansell stepped in and attempted to subdue him to the ground even though being repeatedly struck with the blade.

PC Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and awaited a open target, bringing the confrontation to an finish.

Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "I need help on my throat here, I'm bleeding in the neck."

Sergeant Ansell sustained multiple lacerations to his neck and additional wounds to his arms and torso, while Sergeant Foster suffered slash wounds.

Authorities stated Sgt Foster employed his hands to stop his fellow officer's bleeding before emergency responders reached the scene.

This most recent award follows after the trio of policemen received internal Valor Recognitions in October 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the area officer association in April 2024.

They additionally received a Regional Bravery Award in mid-2024.

"The actions of the entire team eventually saved themselves and resulted in no bystanders suffered any wounds."

Brown was given to an indefinite hospital order in spring 2024, per authorities.
